"Illuminae" Book Club Ideas Part 1

Wow! This book is amazing.
I don't know if you have heard of this book but unless you are living under a rock you should have. This fabulous collaboration between Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is amazing. The book is written in the form of documents, journal entries and emails so it was a little weird or should I say different to get to know characters this way. But they accomplished it! I love listening to audiobooks and I heard that the audio for so so good but I also know that the book is very creative and has art work and creative ways of writing like the pictures below. So I mixed the best of both of these. I listened to the audio while looking at the book. I really think this was the best way to read this book. It really  sounded like I was listening to a movie the sound effects were amazing.

Book Review for "Illuminae" {by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff}

Book Title: Illuminae
Authors: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Number of Pages: 599
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Publication Year: 2015
Genre: Science Fiction

Summary:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she'd have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra--who are barely even talking to each other--are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what's really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents--including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more--Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Our book club picks for 2016 are...

It's always difficult (understatement) when we choose our books to read for the next year, especially when I make sure our selection has a mix of: Fiction, Young Adult, Classics, Non Fiction and Historical Fiction.

It's a balancing act to find books that we really want to read along with books that stretch my members outside of their usual reading comfort zones. But, I think we achieved the impossible and created a fabulous book line up for next year and I'm excited to read and discuss EVERY SINGLE one of these books!!
