"Gemina: The Illuminae Files #2" Book Club Ideas

 What an amazing book club night. This photo shows how magical it was. We asked the group which book they liked better: Illumina or Gemina. It was about 50/50. You know how most of the time the second book in a series just doesn't live up to the first or final book. Well in my opinion I like book two even more. I didn't think the authors could make me fall in love with another couple from this series but I pretty much LOVE Nik and Hannah.
(maybe even more than Kady and Ezra and that is saying a lot if you have read the first book)

I am very excited to see how these two authors finish this story in book 3. I am going to have a hard time waiting until October for that book. And I can't wait to see what the cover is going to look like.

“Her eyes shining with the light of it. Beneath, between, beyond.Along the endless circle.Down the ceaseless spiral.And waiting for her on the other side? Just like he promised....“A whole sky of different stars.” ― Amie Kaufman & Jay KristoffGemina

Book Review for "Gemina" {by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff}

TITLE: Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2)
AUTHOR: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
# OF PAGES: 659
PUBLISHER: Knopf Books for Young Readers

SYNOPSIS:

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The saga that began with Illuminae continues on board the space station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of BeiTech’s assault. Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter, Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while they are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum may be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival. The fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Briefing Note: Told through a compelling dossier of found documents—and featuring guest journal illustrations by bestselling author Marie Lu—Gemina hurls readers into an enthralling new episode that will leave them breathless.

"Illuminae" Book Club Ideas Part 2

Oh this was so creepy... right when you walked in to Jen's house she had her office turned into a quarantined room with an infected child inside. Her kids are so awesome and always dress up and act a part at the book club.
Let's talk about the decorations and discussion we had that night.

"Illuminae" Book Club Ideas Part 1

Wow! This book is amazing.
I don't know if you have heard of this book but unless you are living under a rock you should have. This fabulous collaboration between Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is amazing. The book is written in the form of documents, journal entries and emails so it was a little weird or should I say different to get to know characters this way. But they accomplished it! I love listening to audiobooks and I heard that the audio for so so good but I also know that the book is very creative and has art work and creative ways of writing like the pictures below. So I mixed the best of both of these. I listened to the audio while looking at the book. I really think this was the best way to read this book. It really  sounded like I was listening to a movie the sound effects were amazing.

Book Review for "Illuminae" {by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff}

Book Title: Illuminae
Authors: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Number of Pages: 599
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Publication Year: 2015
Genre: Science Fiction

Summary:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she'd have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra--who are barely even talking to each other--are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what's really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents--including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more--Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
