Because this book had so many great quotes and such amazing galactic art in it we decided to make a few printable and bookmarks for you to download. I hope you enjoy these.

Book Club Ideas for "Shutter" {by Courtney Almeda}
We were honored to have Courtney Alameda, the author of Shutter, come as a special guest to our Book Club meeting!
I met Courtney at the Provo Library some years ago. Courtney use to coordinate all the events and author signings at the library so we saw each other frequently and I quickly came to love her and her vibrant personality. Courtney was usually dressed up in a head to toe costume for events and hosting over the top author signings. I knew right when I first saw her dressed as a Grisha (Shadow & Bone reference), that we were kindred book party spirits.
When Courtney told me she was working on publishing her first book I told her,
"...When you get published, I'm throwing you a book party and that's that."
I was true to my word.
Read on to see how I totally freaked out all my members during our meeting!

Book Club Ideas for "Remake" {by Ilima Todd}
What a refreshingly different book!
Remake turned out to be not what most of us had expected from reading the synopsis but in a good way!

Our book Moderator for this book was Robin and she did such a wonderful job (as always) coming up with unique ways to highlight this book.

Book Club Ideas for "The Devil in the White City" {by Erik Larson}
{Decorations}
The Devil in the White City has two different but parallel story lines going on throughout the entire book.
The first plot is that of H.H. Holmes, serial killer and all around CREEPER. The second plot follows the creation of the Chicago Worlds Fair and all involved. Towards the end of the book the two plots tie together.

2014 Delicious Reads Book Club Retreat
![]() |
Welcome to our first annual Delicious Reads Retreat!
This retreat has been in the works since the very beginning of the year. I have been fussing over it and worrying about all the details for the whole year because I wanted to spoil my members and kick off the holiday season with a BANG!
This retreat has been in the works since the very beginning of the year. I have been fussing over it and worrying about all the details for the whole year because I wanted to spoil my members and kick off the holiday season with a BANG!
{Swag Bags}
I envisioned from the beginning of planning that I wanted to give each of our members a Swag Bag of goodies to take home with them and that's just what I did.
We came up with this tote that looks like a piece of paper. One of our members sewed them all and we will post a DIY for them very soon which I will link to!
Thank you to all the companies that donated items to put in our swag bags!
CENTS OF STYLE for the darling colored stud earrings
RUBY BLOOM BOUTIQUE for the gold chain necklaces
THE BEST IN UTAH for the gift bags full of LOTS of fun surprises
BELLE ROSE CONFECTIONS for the delicious "Hot Chocolate on a Stick"
I also want to thank the people who donated items for our raffle that went on all night long, awww yeah!

Our newest book club member is sweet baby "Ryo" Summers son. He was in baby heaven being surrounded by so many women who wanted to hold and snuggle him!
{Author Visit}
One of our favorite authors, Teri Harman, came up to our retreat to talk about her new book that we read for the month of October, "Black Moon"
See our review of Black Moon, our meeting details and photos with Teri HERE.

We had a delicious spread of food to devour (which we did no problem)

{Italian Soda Bar}
We had to have an Italian Soda Bar! If you're looking for Syrup check out the Holiday Syrup on Amazon: (2 Vanilla, Hazelnut, Peppermint, Gingerbread and Caramel) or you could go Traditional (with Caramel, French Vanilla, Vanilla, Raspberry, Peppermint and Hazelnut)
{Decorations}
We brought a few decorations to celebrate "Black Moon" the 2nd Book in The Moonlight Trilogy but we kept it simple since we were not having a typical meeting.
But, you should check out the over the top book party we threw for Teri's first book BLOOD MOON if you'd like ideas and inspiration!

{Birthday Wishes}
One of our members and blog contributors ROBIN had her actual birthday at the retreat so we wanted to make sure we celebrated it with her. She is so dedicated and we love her for spending her special day with us!
{Photo Booth Shenanigans}
You can't have a girly get together without a photo booth!

We stayed up photo boothing, painting our nails, listening to dance music, and talking about anything and everything until the wee hours of the night. We went to bed so late, like 4:00 am late, but we had to get some sleep because we had the important task of picking out our books for 2015 in the morning!
Oh and I am so excited for all the books we choose to read!
All in all I think we had a FABULOUS retreat that we will continue to do year after year!

"Shadow & Bone" {by Leigh Bardugo} Book Club Ideas
My first thoughts upon reading the first chapter of Shadow and Bone...
"I want to own a kefta... in every color – including black. I want to attend The Little Palace and gawk at the Darkling and wonder what dark things he's up to.
Oh Mal...you can track me anyday.
:)
By the end of the book...
"I need Siege and Storm! I need to start reading it IMMEDIATELY!!! Ahhhhhh, this book is SO good!!"
Let's talk about our book club meeting and what we did to make "Shadow and Bone" jump off the pages...
(If only we could have figured out how to get the Darkling and Mal to jump out the book!)

The book themed Menu:
You can make some of our special dishes for yourself by simply downloading the recipes below!
AND, as an additional BONUS FREEBIE, you can download an absolutely beautiful, amazing and DELICIOUS digital "Shadow and Bone Cookbook" created by Chef Elle Jauffret.
I contacted Elle Jauffret who gave me permission to share a sample of her S&B cookbook that can be downloaded HERE.
I hope that Elle and I can work together in the future because she loves to take books to the next level just like we tend to do!
A little more about Elle:
Born and raised in France, Elle Jauffret left her native country in search of adventure with the only certainty that she would become either a lawyer or a writer. She is the author of the James Normal series (middle grader mysteries) She lives in California with her family where she entertains a growing following with a Facebook blog in which food and original fiction are tightly entwined.
More details
A few of us dressed up in our own versions of keftas for the meeting while everyone else wore the Grisha colors, Red, Blue, Purple and Black!
Bethany was in charge of Moderating again and BOY did she did a fantastic job!! She turned my house into a Russian winter scene right out the book and created the most amazing presentation that allowed her to jump in and out of the Ravka map to show us different things!
She used an online presentation site called PREZI that allowed her to do this.
You can view Bethany's presentation for Shadow and Bone HERE
We held a drawing for a couple fun prizes and Angie and Brittanie were the lucky winners!
Angie won a copy of "Siege and Storm" and a gorgeous Stag Necklace! (shown below)
And Brittanie won the most adorable set of Russian Doll measuring cups along with a Shadow and Bone Soundtrack that Bethany made.
(More soundtrack info below)
