Book Club Ideas for "Wonder" {by RJ Palacio}

“If every person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary - the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday, may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.”
― R.J. PalacioWonder

I am SO excited to be sharing our book club ideas for this incredible book. We all fell in love with "Auggie" and the wonder of WONDER and if you haven't already, it's time you did.

Book Club Ideas for "The Devil in the White City" {by Erik Larson}

{Decorations}
The Devil in the White City has two different but parallel story lines going on throughout the entire book.
The first plot is that of  H.H. Holmes, serial killer and all around CREEPER. The second plot follows the creation of the Chicago Worlds Fair and all involved. Towards the end of the book the two plots tie together.

Book Club Ideas For: "The Eye of Minds" {by James Dashner}

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

This is book #1 in The Mortality Doctrine series. In January we had our Book Club on it. Shalease was our moderator for this book and she did such a great job coming up with the decorations and menu for the night! Luckily for us her husband recently rediscovered his old gaming system so she brought them to create some fun decorations. Do you remember Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda and Tetris?! Seeing those games sure brought back memories.

2014 Delicious Reads Book Club Retreat

Delicious Reads, book club

Welcome to our first annual Delicious Reads Retreat!

This retreat has been in the works since the very beginning of the year. I have been fussing over it and worrying about all the details for the whole year because I wanted to spoil my members and kick off the holiday season with a BANG!

{Swag Bags}
I envisioned from the beginning of planning that I wanted to give each of our members a Swag Bag of goodies to take home with them and that's just what I did.

We came up with this tote that looks like a piece of paper. One of our members sewed them all and we will post a DIY for them very soon which I will link to!

Thank you to all the companies that donated items to put in our swag bags!
CENTS OF STYLE for the darling colored stud earrings
RUBY BLOOM BOUTIQUE for the gold chain necklaces

 {Author Visit}
One of our favorite authors, Teri Harman, came up to our retreat to talk about her new book that we read for the month of October, "Black Moon"
See our review of Black Moon, our meeting details and photos with Teri HERE.

We had a delicious spread of food to devour (which we did no problem)

{Italian Soda Bar}
We had to have an Italian Soda Bar! If you're looking for Syrup check out the Holiday Syrup on Amazon: (2 Vanilla, Hazelnut, Peppermint, Gingerbread and Caramel) or you could go Traditional (with Caramel, French Vanilla, Vanilla, Raspberry, Peppermint and Hazelnut)

{Decorations}
We brought a few decorations to celebrate "Black Moon" the 2nd Book in The Moonlight Trilogy but we kept it simple since we were not having a typical meeting.

But, you should check out the over the top book party we threw for Teri's first book BLOOD MOON if you'd like ideas and inspiration!

{Birthday Wishes}
One of our members and blog contributors ROBIN had her actual birthday at the retreat so we wanted to make sure we celebrated it with her. She is so dedicated and we love her for spending her special day with us!

{Photo Booth Shenanigans}
You can't have a girly get together without a photo booth!

Find these free printable word bubbles for your photo booth HERE

We stayed up photo boothing, painting our nails, listening to dance music, and talking about anything and everything until the wee hours of the night. We went to bed so late, like 4:00 am late, but we had to get some sleep because we had the important task of picking out our books for 2015 in the morning!
Oh and I am so excited for all the books we choose to read!
All in all I think we had a FABULOUS retreat that we will continue to do year after year!

Remembrandt Giveaway!

We want to send some holiday cheer your way! What better way than a FREE book to read in front of the fire and a beautiful frame with a quote from one of our favorite authors, Jane Austen!

Jane Austen Quote Framed and Remembrandt by Robin King

Prize #1:
Remembrandt by Robin King is a young adult suspense that will keep you on your toes with the action and mystery and sighing over and over with the romance. Summary: Alexandra Stewart doesn't just walk down memory lane - she lives on it. The seventeen-year-old starts a new semester at Brown University, hoping to leave behind painful memories, which is nearly impossible when her eidetic memory replays everything in her mind in movie-esque detail. Things aren't always what they seem: her new running partner will show up in another important area of her life, her Russian professor is anything but ordinary and Brown University holds a well-kept secret.

This is our book club pick for our meeting in February so it's a must have if you want to read along with us! Check out the other books 2015 Book Picks

Prize #2:
The framed quote, created by our very own Kelly, is the perfect addition to your bookshelf: "I declare there is no enjoyment like reading." Jane Austen

Rules: Only those 18 years and older may enter (Sorry, younger teen friends. Ask your parents to enter!). Only residents of the United States. The prizes offered are free of charge. No purchase necessary.

"The Husband's Secret" Part I Book Club Ideas {by Liane Moriarty}

This Books Moderator was
KELLIE!

*As Moderator, Kellie planned the entire evening: finding all of the book inspired décor, putting together the menu, hosting the giveaway, creating the discussion questions and giving each of us our own SECRET letter that we opened during the discussion!
THANK YOU Kellie!

Image Source
"None of us ever know all the possible courses our lives  could have and maybe should have taken. It's probably just as well. Some secrets are meant to stay secret forever. Just
ask Pandora." — Liane Moriarty (The Husband's Secret)

We read THE HUSBANDS SECRET for the month of May and discussed it first thing in June and can I just say,
...this book is fantastic!
I loved it. I finished it in no time flat because I HAD to know how it was all going to end!
This book has gotten loads of attention and good reviews for a reason, do yourself a favor and read this book asap!

WHY ARE THERE THREE DIFFERENT BOOK COVERS??
         Moriarty likes to have a different book cover for United States, United Kingdom and Australia for all her books.
*The cover with the balloon is the Australian book cover.
*The cover with the shattering flower is the American book cover.
*The cover with the butterfly in the jar is the United Kingdom cover.
Kellie did a great job making sure each book cover was represented in the decor she set up!

Since this book was based in Australia and was written by an Australian author, we decided to have an Australian inspired BBQ complete with shrimp on the barbie.
Check out our complete Australian BBQ menu...
Kellie ordered some of the infamous VEGEMITE from Australia  for us all try....
...How was it you ask? Let's just say that she had PLENTY of it leftover.
Vegemite is a yeast extract that has a salty, malty flavor and is used on toast and sandwiches and must be an acquired taste because it's no peanut butter!

Chanel brought her super tasty quinoa and spinach salad that she blogged about HERE and trust me, you will WANT this recipe for your next get together because it will blow your mind with how good it is!

The Food was seriously SOOOOO GOOOOOD!
[I dare you to resist licking your screen]
And can we talk about the desserts...
YES LETS!
(Have I mentioned that I LOVE when authors mention lots of desserts in their books?!)

We were treated to FRENCH MACAROONS, HOT CROSS BUNS & INDIVIDUAL PAVLOVAS with a delicious strawberry sauce...Drool.

You can find a similar hot cross bun recipe HERE and the individual pavlova recipe can be found HERE.
Here's a little "DID YOU KNOW" about Liane Moriarty.

Liane's been heli-skiing, skydiving and scuba diving but now prefers to run around with
her kids. She mentions that she only ever went skydiving once and has no intention of ever doing it again. She likes to give the impression that she's led an incredibly active, athletic life to make up for all the hours she now spends lying around reading novels and eating Turkish Delight!

In honor of Liane, we made sure to have lots of Turkish Delight around to nibble on while we discussed her brilliant book.
You can find the Pomegranate delights HERE and the fruit delights HERE.
It's no secret that there is a LOT more to share with you about our book club meeting on The Husbands Secret so make sure to check back this Wednesday for the final post with all of our meeting details and all the printables and downloads you could ever want!
