The Martian {Book to Movie}

I read this book last year because there was tons of buzz about it and I had heard good things. So I was glad to hear that they were making it into a movie and wow did they make it fast. It was not your normal type of read but it was really interesting and MacGyverish, but on Mars where one could die at every turn. I am really interested to see what parts they keep and if they add anything to make this entertaining to the masses. I was surprised to see that it is rated PG-13. I would have bet money that it was rated R because of the language in the book but it looks like they might have made some changes to keep the rating down for more people to enjoy.

So get ready to buy your tickets because it's coming out October 2.

{Movie Synopsis}
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

{Book Synopsis}
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

{Matt Damon - Mark Watney}
Matt Damon acted in many movies early on in his career but when Good Will Hunting came out it made him into an instant movie star and since that movie he has acted in such movies as The Bourne Identity Movies, Saving Private Ryan and Ocean's Eleven. He has a couple movies in the works right now: The next movie in The Bourne Series (yay he's back for more), The Great Wall, Downsizing (co starring with Reese Witherspoon). I love how he really gets into his characters and becomes that person.

{Jessica Chastain - Melissa Lewis}
Jessica Chastain is no stranger to space movies. She was in the hit movie Interstellar that came out last year with Matthew McConaughey. But she was also in The Help, Zero Dark Thirty, and Agatha Christie: Poirot TV Series (the Murder on the Orient Express). I added that one because we are reading that this month. Her upcoming projects are: Crimson Peak, another Book to Movie The Zookeeper's Wife (2016), and The Huntsman (starring Chris Hemsworth...sigh) April 2016. She is currently dating Italian fashion exec Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo.
{Kate Mara - Beth Johanssen}
Kate Mara has acting and football in the family. Her sister is Rooney Mara and her grandfather was co owner of the NY Giants. It is rumored that her new boyfriend is Jamie Bell who was in the Fantastic Four with her. She has been in such movies as 127 Hours, Shooter, Fantastic Four and Iron Man 2. Her upcoming movies are Megan Leavey and Fantastic Four 2 (2017).
{Kristen Wiig - Annie Montrose}
Kristen Wigg has been in How to Train Your Dragon, Bridesmaids and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Her upcoming movies are: Zoolander 2, Ghostbusters and How to Train Your Dragon 3 (2018). She is currently dating Fabrizio Moretti. On the right is what she looks like now but on the left is what I picture when I hear her name. What a great movie and a great song!

{Jeff Daniels - Teddy Sanders}
Who doesn't know Jeff Daniels from the infamous Dumb and Dumber? He was in a political TV Series called The Newsroom. He has another movie coming out this month, Steve Jobs. Other upcoming movies are: The Divergent Series: Allegiant and The Divergent Series: Ascendant. He is married to Kathleen Treado and has 3 children.

Interesting interview Jeff Daniels gives to USA today about acting and his career.

{Michael Peña - Rick Martinez}

Michael Peña was in the recent release Ant-Man, also Fury and Shooter. His upcoming projects are: CHiPS (Playing Ponch), Hell and Back, and War on Everyone. He totally looks like a good "Ponch"

{Director Ridley Scott}
Ridley Scott has directed so many great movies starting with Alien in 1979. Other movies such as: American Gangster, and Prometheus.
He also produces and executive produces many TV series and movies. He was suppose to direct Blood Red Road by Moira Young (one of my favorite books and I really hope they make this movie.)
He has so many projects in the works I'll just name a few: Prometheus 2 (2017), Concussion starring Will Smith, and the Untitled Alien Project (2017).
