"Everneath" {by Brodi Ashton} Book Club Ideas

MARCH BOOK CLUB:
"Everneath"
By: Brodi Ashton

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

Kellie and I like to attend local author signings when we can and we often find ourselves seated at "The Kings English" waiting to hear a new author speak.
Late last summer we were at such a signing where we went to hear Ilsa Bick speak about her new book, "Ashes." For some reason, there was a very small turn out and Kellie and I found ourselves sitting in a tight circle with the author and three other women. (It turned out to be one of our favorite author events since it was so personal!)
At the end of the signing, we started chatting with the other three women who were in attendance and were surprised to find that they were all authors! We were thrilled to be in a circle of so many fabulous women who then each told us about their books.
*Enter Brodi.

*Enter new book club idea.
....where I ask Brodi to visit our book club.
*Enter Brodi...to Delicious Reads Book Club...because stalking pays off.
HUGE cheesy grin...Brodi Ashton is in my house!
*Enter the thought, "Now how do I ever top this?"
This is the picture we took of Brodi, and her other author friends, Bree Despain and Emily Wing Smith at the "Ashes" signing in 2011.

The picture below was taken at Brodi's "Everneath" book launch this January!
{Can you spot Kellie and I?}

Me, Kellie and Brodi at her release party. She had one of the LARGEST turn outs I've ever seen, it was incredible!
{And yes, I did remind poor Brodi yet again that she said she could come to our book club! I guess I still couldn't believe that a big time author like Brodi was actually going to be coming to our book club!}

OUR BOOK CLUB MEETING:
-DECORATIONS & FOOD-
Since "Everneath" is rich in Greek mythology, I chose to have a full Greek menu of delicious food!
{Pictures taken by the fabulous BETHANY MADISON!}

Bethany made the most heavenly "Nectar of the Gods" drink for us.

GAME & DISCUSSION:
HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR GREEK MYTHOLOGY?

The always beautiful Bethany, Brooke (Cade), Angie and Mindy
Kitch with her sister Jenny Shalease and Sandra
The lovely Laura (and me) & The wonderful Rachelle and Brodi!!

WINNERS!!
Angie Won the prize for the Greek Mythology game and Betsy won the prize for the Everneath Egyptian quiz!
I learned that Brodi grew up reading D'Aulaires "Book of Greek Myths" when she was little which helped foster her love of Greek Mythology so I thought it was a fitting prize! Angie (who won the mythology prize) also received a cute ANCHOR necklace (which will make sense if you've read Everneath) a copy of the Everneath soundtrack I made and a bag of one of Brodi's favorite treats, chocolate covered cinnamon bears!

The "Fun with hieroglyphs" book is what I gave away for the Egyptian quiz winner. It comes with all these fun stamps and a great book that teaches you the basics of hieroglyphs! Betsy also received a snazzy silver cuff bracelet with "Egyptian" symbols on it, a copy of the Everneath soundtrack and also a bag of the chocolate covered cinnamon bears.

Here's the cover of Soundtrack I put together that follows Everneath and the story in chronological order.
{I hope Brodi liked it!}
If you're interested, you can download a copy of the CD cover playlist I made HERE.
{You'll have to find the music on your own though, sorry!}
Here's a sampling of a few of the discussion questions we went over as a group and with Brodi. You can read some of our responses to these questions (along with Brodi's) on our review HERE.

We also discussed what we thought the Everneath looked like:

The Tunnels:

And the Shades.
When I thought of the shades, I instantly thought of this clip from the 1990 movie,"Ghost!"
All in all, we had an absolutely fabulous discussion and Brodi couldn't have been more interesting and we all decided that she is a total sweetheart!!
THE GROUP!

THANK YOU AGAIN BRODI!

I wanted to Thank Brodi for coming to Delicious Reads Book Club with a little gift so I put together a little care package filled with:

1. DIET COKE. (From what I've heard, it's Brodi's version of water)
2. A big bag of CHOCOLATE COVERED CINNAMON BEARS.
3. A copy of my EVERNEATH PLAYLIST.
4. An adorable Cole inspired GUITAR NECKLACE.
5. A little THANK YOU CARD.
Brodi was gracious enough to stay even later than we had already kept her to sign all of our books (and one members ipad cover!)

Brodi, Thank You again for visiting Delicious Reads Book Club and for making "Everneath" one of our most memorable book clubs ever!

The pictures are great and you look great. Unfortunately I look aweful. Next time tell me so I can try to remedy the situation. That was such a fun night and I wish that Brodi would come to all our book club meetings. She is so down to earth and I loved discussing other young adult books with her. Love you Brodi!!

Probably one of my favorite nontypical book clubs yet! It was so interesting and I felt so cool to get to have an event with the actual author. I brag to everyone about it! Way to go Kelly.
