"Illuminae" Book Club Ideas Part 1

Wow! This book is amazing.
I don't know if you have heard of this book but unless you are living under a rock you should have. This fabulous collaboration between Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is amazing. The book is written in the form of documents, journal entries and emails so it was a little weird or should I say different to get to know characters this way. But they accomplished it! I love listening to audiobooks and I heard that the audio for so so good but I also know that the book is very creative and has art work and creative ways of writing like the pictures below. So I mixed the best of both of these. I listened to the audio while looking at the book. I really think this was the best way to read this book. It really  sounded like I was listening to a movie the sound effects were amazing.

{Food Ideas}
Food Ideas for this book were a little more difficult to associate with the book. They didn't talk about food so there was no way to bring that into our decision for what we were going to eat and we couldn't even do food from a certain country because this book takes place in outer space. They don't get fresh food up there in space so we thought it would be fun to have a type of "last meal" food with fresh veggies and the perfect way to do that was a salad bar and soup naturally goes with salad so wa la!
We decided to go with a soup and salad bar!

{Drinks}
We had a fun Slime Drink and Fruit (oranges) infused water. We thought the slime juice would look like a contaminated drink. Plus it was really yummy.

{Sides}
We had members bring sides to put on their salads. You could do any sides that you would like. We chose things like, dried cranberries, nuts, apple slices, red, yellow and green peppers sliced, tomatoes, carrots, corn, black beans, broccoli, feta cheese, avocados and bacon. Then just pull all the dressing from your fridge. Then all you need is a yummy roll for your soups.

{Main Dish}
We went with soups and salads. We have a couple members that have food allergies and so we had three different soups to choose from and we had lettuce and shredded chicken for the salads.

Cheesy Potato Soup

Chicken Tortilla Soup (Dairy and Gluten Free)

Copy Cat of Zuppa Tuscana Soup from Olive Garden (Gluten Free)

Don't you just love this idea of putting the salads in these containers?

{Desserts}
Love the Ice Cream Bar we set up at book club. Plus who doesn't like donuts.

Doesn't this salad look perfect!

Chow time!

Sorry the pic quality isn't the greatest we had to improvise. (Photo cred to me.)

I hope this gave you some great ideas for your own Illuminae Book Club.
